Final Fantasy: the Spirits Within(7/10/2001)
The long awaited movie, Final Fantasy: the Spirits Within
will start showing here onWednesday - July 11, 2001 the same date that
it will be shown in the United States and presumably the rest of the world.
This groundbreaking movie was created by Square Pictures,
an offshoot of the company that made the Final Fantasy games. Utilizing
groundbreaking techniques, the folks at Square have been able to create
realitstic skin and clothing that make the fully CG characters of this
movie seem almost real. This is a departure from previous fully CG movies
which were hampered by the fact that they were CG and therefore could
not create realistic looking humans.
Taking place in the year 2065, the movie(as with all Final
Fantasy releases) features new story and characters not taken from
any previous FF incarnation. The plot centers around an alien races
attempt to conquer the Earth and the endeavors of the heroes as they try
to stop this in the face of overwhelming odds.
Final Fantasy: the Spirits Within features the voices
of Ming-Na, Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, Peri Gilpin, Ving Rames and Donald
Sutherland, the soundtrack features a cut by J-Rock group L'Arc En Ciel
and is the big screen directorial debut of video games god Hironobu Sakaguchi.
